Gear Rescue Guide is an editorial project, not a testing lab. This page explains, plainly, how our guides actually get made — what sources we draw on, what we don't claim, how we pick what to cover, and how our affiliate links work.

What we actually do

We're an editorial project, not a testing lab. We work from manufacturer specifications and documentation, published industry standards (EN/ISO 23537 for sleeping bags, IEC standards for audio), independent laboratory measurements where they exist, and long-term owner reports across forums and retailer reviews. We synthesise those sources and explain the underlying mechanism — why a spec matters, why a product behaves the way it does, and what that means for your specific situation.

What we don't do

We don't claim to have hands-on tested every product we mention. We don't publish numerical scores we can't substantiate. We don't accept payment, free products, or any other consideration in exchange for coverage.

How we choose what to cover

We focus on questions people actually ask: why gear underperforms, what a spec really means, and when an upgrade isn't worth it. Long-form explanation over short listicles.

How we handle affiliate links

Some links earn us a commission at no extra cost to the reader. No manufacturer previews or approves our content, and affiliate revenue never changes a verdict. When something isn't worth buying, we say so. Full details in our affiliate disclosure.
